I am myself twice in one red dress. I began a new stage in my life, by getting engaged a few weeks before my sister committed suicide. So, I painted, and painted about her, but now it's about me even if the painting brings up me, her or both of us.

The red dress dominates this composition because I needed attention after my sister died, and I couldn't get it. The dead become larger than life. Here, in a metaphorical garden reminiscent of Southern California where John and I met and married is the first iteration of this idea. It was a fateful year.

I'm interested in more complex compositions that show relationship between people and environment. I want the viewer to take a second look and feel something. While I was painting the shoulder by using just one line, I remembered my shoulder was pulled out of socket in high school. I hadn't thought about it for a long time, but it came back to me just as I painted the line.
